Are You a What if or Even If? – Michael Edwards
Therefore do not worry about tomorrow, for tomorrow will worry about itself. Sufficient to the day is its own trouble. Matt 6:34 BSB
All of us at times fall into the trap of what if thinking. Tormenting ourselves and helping the enemy, some of us worry obsessively, what if this happens?
Only our enemy wants us to worry and to believe that if we are not, we are being irresponsible. But the truth in this one liner: Those people who told me worry never accomplishes anything were so wrong, ninety nine percent of what I worry about never happens.
Have you noticed how fear and worry accomplish nothing good? How the enemy uses them to kill, steal and destroy, using tomorrows worries and fears to steal today from us and to lead us down the path of more fear, worry, anxiety and eventually depression?
So, what if we were to make a small but powerful change in our words, like Habakkuk did in these verses, changing what if into even if.
Even if the fig tree does not bloom and the vines have no grapes, even if the olive tree fails to produce and the fields yield no food, even if the sheep pen is empty and the stalls have no cattle—even then, I will be happy with the LORD. I will truly find joy in God, who saves me. Habakkuk 3:17-19 GW
Our words and thoughts are incredibly powerful. What if, is all about doubt and fear. Even if, is all about faith and trust. Which words do you think would bring us peace and strengthen our faith?
Being an ‘even if’ Christian can radically change your life. I hope you will at the very least test out this change for thirty days and see if it makes a difference. Even if this or that happens: He will provide a way; I will never be alone; He will comfort me; His love for me will never end; His promises are still true; I will worship and praise my Lord and Savior.
Nevertheless, when the Son of Man comes, will He find faith on earth?” Luke 18:8b BSB
