Don’t Change the Lock
By Toni Babcock

I am the door: by me if any man enter in, he shall be saved, and shall go in and out, and find pasture. John 10:9 KJV

Jesus referred to Himself as the Door by whom we go in and out and find pasture (John 10:9 KJV). He is also the key to the Door, but sometimes we change the lock so the key doesn’t work. Yes, we who have believed in Jesus and hold the key, can still allow the sin of unbelief to change the lock so we can’t open and walk through the Door and find pasture. Do you think this is impossible for the child of God? Think again. Abraham, Moses, David, and Elijah are just a few of the faithful who, in a time of great trial or weakness gave into a lack of trust that threatened to sink them, but thankfully God who is faithful to Himself, to His people, and to His promises would not allow this. Instead, the Holy Spirit records the lives of the faithful in all their true colors, so as to remind ALL of us what any one of us could become at anytime outside of God’s intervening grace. And though unbelief may still present itself at times to sink us, the sincere Christian will acknowledge its existence and repent of it before God.

Unbelief changes the lock and prevents us from honestly walking through the Door of Christ by faith and enjoying pasture. Perhaps the question we need to ask ourselves when we find ourselves at such a low spiritual point is not, “Have you changed the lock?” but “Why?”
