Trouble - a Ticket for Trust

by Noel Mitaxa

“Man is born to trouble as the sparks fly upward,”      (Job 5:7)

Job is a biblical byword for personal disaster and cold comfort.
Today trouble has a starring-role in news and entertainment—and in gossip. Fair enough if answers get equal time, but they are too often sidelined by breaking news and analysis of more troubles…

Trouble has no single cause. Some people from abusive, violent backgrounds may feel their only options are to either relive their past or to revisit it on other vulnerable people. Some with low self-esteem seem to look for trouble because it’s “just my luck!”

Others only make troubles worse through their blind but determined “Mr Fix-it” mindsets. Their attitude is similar to Messiah complexes which ignore a bible proverb’s wisdom: “like a man who grabs the ears of a dog is a passer-by who meddles in a dispute that isn’t his own!”

We can’t ignore trouble; but if we concentrate on it, our sanity can suffer industrial-strength damage. As Jesus said, “Let each day’s trouble stay with that day.” And if our sleep is disturbed by unfinished business, unresolved conflicts or frustrated dreams; it’s worth realising that Jesus’ wisdom comes from having a resurrection on his CV...

And if Jesus has bounced back all the way from death—the worst trouble anyone can face—there’s no risk in trusting him to release his love into our troubles, so we may discover answers that set others free as well.
