Christ Is Our Foundation, Our Rock
Lakella L. Davenport
“For other foundation can no man lay than that is laid, which is Jesus Christ,” (I Corinthians 3:11 KJV).
We must build our lives on the foundation of Christ. Everything that we do should be centered on Christ. It is through Christ “we live, and move and have our being,” (Acts 17:28 KJV). We are called to be imitators of all things Christ, called to love like he loved, and to walk in fellowship with our fellow man like He walked. We are called to build upon Christ, treasures in heaven (Matthew 6:19-21), rooted and grounded in the foundation of Christ, not to layup carnal things of this world like riches and possessions.
We are collectively God's building. “For we are labourers together with God: ye are God's husbandry, ye are God's building,” (I Corinthians 3:9 KJV). Because of Jesus one time sacrifice for our sins, our bodies are temples where God's Holy Spirit resides as a guarantee of our inheritance. In Christ, we are pure, righteous, and clean in the eyes of God. We are called to be shining examples in this world, of our true identity in Christ, called to walk by faith in the Spirit so that the fruits of the spirit will be present in our lives. The fruits of “love, joy, peace, long suffering, gentleness, goodness, faith, meekness, temperance: against such there is no law,” (Galatians 5:22-23 KJV).
We are called to allow the Lord to finish what He has started, to build our house on the rock. Christ is our rock and our foundation. “Except the Lord build the house, they labour in vain that build it,” (Psalms 27:1 KJV). “And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ,” (I Corinthians 10:4 KJV). “I will say unto God my rock,” (Psalms 42:9 KJV).
When the storms of life beat up against our spiritual house, it will not fall. It will stand and we shall reap in joy, the harvest of our labors. “And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock,” (Matthew 7:25 KJV).
