CORAM DEO - By Robert Schaetzle
“For as the heavens are high above the earth, so great is his steadfast love toward those who fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far does he remove our transgressions from us. As a father pities his children, so the Lord pities those who fear him.” (Psalm 13:11-13 RSV)
This Latin phrase Coram Deo from Christian theology summarizes the idea of Christians living in the very presence of God, under the authority of God, and to the honor of God.
It was many years ago I began to dedicate each day to God; that is, to ask Him in prayer to lead me. For most of my years beginning each day as a ‘new Creature’ in Christ, (2 Corinthians 5:17 RSV) I have been blessed to witness the preeminence of His Spirit at work in me more and more.
Dedicating each day to our Lord is to recognize His Spirit abiding in us, as His Spirit brings a greater worth to our hope, and sends a strong testimony to those we love. Dedicating each day to God’s honor helps us recognize the passion and boldness He brings as we seek to encourage others to be led by Him, too.
“For God did not give us a spirit of timidity but a spirit of power and love and self-control. Do not be ashamed then of testifying to our Lord, nor of me his prisoner, but share in suffering for the gospel in the power of God. Who saved us and called us with a holy calling, not in virtue of our works but in virtue of his own purpose and the grace which he gave us in Christ Jesus ages ago.” (2 Timothy 1:7-9 RSV)
Thank you, Father, for greater is He in us…
