Building a Legacy - Karen Pourbabaee
“In the fear of the Lord is a strong defense; even for one’s children He will be a refuge.” Proverbs 14:26 NAB
What will endure in your life? Those things of lasting value that can be passed on to the next generation and beyond? Not a million dollars, but the riches of a strong faith. Not a diamond ring, but joy and peace. Not an elegant mansion, but an unseen fortress. What are you doing today that will build that spiritual refuge for your children referred to in Proverbs? We must live intentionally, not just for ourselves, but for the succeeding generations. It’s not just about me.
God’s Word is full of such promises for the legacy we are building. “How blessed is the man who fears the Lord, who greatly delights in His commandments. His descendants will be mighty on earth; the generation of the upright will be blessed. Wealth and riches are in his house, and his righteousness endures forever.” (Psalm 112:1-3)
“When a man walks in integrity and justice, happy are his children after him.” (Proverbs 20:7)
It’s pretty clear that our part is to live in fear (revere, worship as only God) of the Lord, delight in His commandments, and to walk in integrity and justice. For us, this becomes a strong defense, leading to a blessed life. And what about our children and our children’s children?
An eternal refuge will be theirs.
They will be called mighty and blessed.
Wealth, riches, and righteousness will endure in their homes.
Happiness will be their inheritance.
That sounds like the answer to our prayers, right? Living rightly before God becomes a prayer, the foundation of blessings for the next generation. “Make your life a prayer. And in the midst of everything be always giving thanks, for this is God’s perfect plan for you in Christ Jesus.” (1Thessalonians 5:17-18 TPT) How is your prayer life going? What are you building with your life?
