Be On the Look Out – Jane H. Young
Watch where you step and watch where your mind is going. Don’t go through your day without thinking with a purpose – where are you heading? Think with a clear head. Take each step with a determined plan for your day.
“Be of sober spirit, be on the alert. Your adversary, the devil, prowls around like a roaring lion, seeking someone to devour.” 1 Peter 5:8 NASB 1995
Know this – that someone doesn’t have to be you, unless you open the door and give Satan the opportunity to come in. Keep the door to your mind, heart, and emotions bolted and focused on God’s plan for your day.
For example: You have just finished reading your Bible and are going to spend time praying and talking with God. As you start to pray, you remember you were supposed to call your friend this morning to make plans to meet for lunch. Do you stop praying? I mean after all, you did promise to call her first thing this morning. Then you think, ‘I need to throw a load of laundry in,’ or you must make plans for your child’s sleepover this coming Saturday.
Look at what has happened in the first few seconds of the time you were planning on spending with God. The devil came prowling around trying to devour your time with your Heavenly Father, and with a bunch of nonsense that could and should be taken care of later. Be on the watch what you allow to take over your time with God.
Prayer: I want to spend time with you Father, not all the thoughts that try to run through my mind. Help me Father to quiet my spirit and focus on our time together, so that I can hear you as we talk together.
