A Faithful Few - Lakella L. Davenport
“For we walk by faith, not by sight.” 2 Corinthians 5:7 KJV
“Behold the Lord thy God hath set the land before thee: go up and possess it, as the Lord God of thy fathers hath said unto thee; fear not, neither be discouraged.” (Deuteronomy 1:21 KJV) God had promised and told the Israelites that he would give the land of Canaan unto them (the promised land) that he had sworn to give them. They didn’t need to be afraid of the peoples of the land. God promised to be with them when they went to take possession of it. However, instead of trusting God’s word, and having faith in him, ten of the twelve spies Moses sent to search the land, brought back a bad report. The people believed this bad report and refused to go in and possess the land out of fear and not faith. They were walking by sight instead of faith in God’s word.
“For God is not a man that he should lie; neither the son of man that he should repent, hath he said, and shall he not do it? Or hath he spoken, and shall he not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19 KJV)
“For many are called but few are chosen.” (Matthew 22:14 KJV) During Moses’ leadership, twelve spies were called, only two (Joshua and Caleb), were chosen by God to enter the promised land because they had greater faith, a faith that the other ten did not have. The ten spies and the adults who did not believe God would deliver them to inherit the land from the sons of Anakims, who were giants, would not inherit the land. (See Deuteronomy 1:35 KJV)
“For without faith it is impossible to please him...” (Hebrew 11:6a KJV) “That ye be not slothful but followers of them who through faith and patience inherit the promises of God,” (Hebrews 6:12 KJV)
Father God, I pray that we learn to walk by faith and not by sight, in every situation and circumstance in our lives.
