A Comparison of Two Saviors: Moses and Jesus – Lakella L. Davenport
John 3:16 KJV- “For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life.”
Over the time span of history, God has called and sent many saviors to save his people from persecution and their own sins. One of the first saviors God appointed to save his people from harsh rule in the land of Egypt was a God-fearing man called Moses, a shadow or picture/type of Jesus, who was to come. Moses and Jesus have quite a lot in common as saviors of God's people. They have differences as well. I will give a brief comparison of both as saviors.
Moses was called to save the Hebrew people but not all humanity. Jesus was called to save the Hebrew peoples and all nations upon the Earth. Both Moses and Jesus rode on a donkey. Jesus the Savior of all mankind came riding upon a donkey into Jerusalem, (Matthew 21:1-10). Moses the Savior of the Israelite people came riding with his family on a donkey into Egypt, (Exodus 4:20).
God saved Moses from being killed as a baby by Pharaoh, (Exodus 2: 2-10). God saved Jesus from being killed as a baby by King Herod, (Matthew 2). Moses did signs and wonders. He brought plagues upon the Egyptians, (Exodus chapters 7-14). Jesus performed miracles, and did signs and wonders, (Matthew 9:35).
God transferred some of the spirit (anointing) that was on Moses unto 70 leaders in the kingdom, (Numbers 11:25). Jesus transferred some of his Holy Spirit unto his disciples, (John 20: 2). He gave them the ability to perform miracles, and do signs and wonders, (Matthew 10:8). A final comparison between these two saviors is that both communed with God for 40 days and 40 nights, (Exodus 24:18, Matthew 4:1-2, and Mark 1:12-13).
In the end though, Jesus is the only Savior God has sent upon the Earth that can forgive sins, offer the gift of the Holy Spirit, and eternal life to those who believe upon Him.
Father God, I thank you for sending your only begotten Son, that I may have eternal life and everlasting joy through faith in Him.
