This wine is named after a huge royal forest where kings came to hunt. Some of the very low yielding Carignan vines are over 50 years old, and combined with meticulous hand picking produce a concentrate, very expressive wine with hints of black berries and olive based 'tapenade', Until the 19th century, wolves roamed though the vines of this schist based terroir, sheltered by the Caroux Massif. No longer their home, the 'Land of the Wolves' is now a well known vineyard which flourishes as the skilled Cave de Berlou winemakers pass their knowledge down through the generations. The vines grow on adjacent terraces and hillsides in an amphitheatre facing due south in schist soil.
