Run by father and son Gary and Nick Farr, By Farr is at the top echelon of Australian Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, driving powerful, mineral-focused, single-site wines from near Geelong in Victoria. They have worked with some of the best estates internationally; the Farr’s have a long history with Burgundy’s Domaine Dujac in particular, Gary and Nick both having worked and learned there in turn. Set in a very cool, dry climate, the vineyards are based on ancient river deposits within the valley; the variation of six types of soil, the climate and the excellent drainage ensure very small yields, and intensely flavored fruit. Only 36 of their 130 acres are under vine. The wines are all single vineyards, wild fermented, gravity fed, and generally with significant whole-cluster inclusion. |
