This family owned estate was established in 1955 with only two hectares of vines located in Vosne Romanée. Slowly, choice vineyard sites were added to the family’s holdings, including a piece of Echezeaux from the 3 sisters Gouroux and some Clos Vougeot in the Clos des Langres. The estate now has 18 hectares of vines throughout the great terroirs of Vosne Romanée, Chambolle Musigny, Nuit St-Georges and Clos Vougeot in the Côte de Nuits. Today, Daniel’s children (Christophe, Oliver and Pascale) run and operate the winery, crafting natural wines adhering to the lutte raisonée philosophy, using organic fertilizers and sustainable methods to farm the vineyards whenever possible. Grapes are hand-harvested, sorted and destemmed before fermentation (a gravity-fed process) and sulphur addition is kept to a strict minimum. Élevage is fifteen to eighteen months in oak barrels (30% to 80% new, depending upon vintage and vineyard site), highlighting soft, delicate tannins. While the holdings of this family are magnificent, these are farmers. Their attention to detail in the vineyard guarantees the release of high quality wines of incredible balance and finesse. Wines from this estate fly under the radar and represent truly incredible values – these understated and traditional wines tell the story of each vineyard, highlighting the great terroir of the Côte de Nuits. |
