2013 Cos d’Estournel Blanc $105 bottle 95 Points James Suckling “A dense and waxy white with lemon rind, lemon curd and stone. Full and oily. It goes on for minutes with so much fruit and richness. Licorice, aniseed and dried citrus. Salty. Chewy after. Drink or hold. Best ever! 76% sauvignon blanc with 24% semillion.”
2014 Pagodes de Cos d’Estournel $88 bottle 92 Points Antonio Galloni “The 2014 Les Pagodes de Cos is racy and voluptuous from the outset. Dark stone fruit, chocolate, menthol, licorice and dark spices run through this succulent, textured Saint-Estèphe. The interplay of dense flavors from the dehydration of fruit by warm days and anticyclonic winds resulted in an unusually opulent second wine, made in a flamboyant, exotic style that is found in some wines of the northern Médoc in 2014.”
2010 Pagodes de Cos d’Estournel $120 bottle 93 Points Robert Parker “Probably the best second wine ever made at Cos, the 2010 Les Pagodes de Cos is a blend of 62% Cabernet Sauvignon and 38% Merlot finishing at 14% natural alcohol. This wine exhibits beautiful, silky tannins as well as sweet, rich mulberry and black currant fruit with hints of spring flowers, licorice and subtle toast. A full-bodied, opulent and -ideal- second wine, most people who have tasted it would probably agree that it is actually better than many vintages of Cos d’Estournel from the 1960s and 1970s. Drink it over the next 10-15 years.”
2006 Cos d’Estournel $240 bottle 92 Points Neal Martin “The Cos d’Estournel ’06 has a very opulent, gregarious nose: high-toned, slightly volatile black fruit with a hint of eau-de-vie. There is something Tuscan/Napa Valley reminiscent in this Saint Estephe that is so daringly spicy and exotic towards the glossy finish. Like your best friend that cannot help but show off.”
2005 Cos d’Estournel $395 bottle 98 Points Robert Parker “While I am not convinced the 2005 Cos d’Estournel will eclipse the compelling 2003 Cos, it is unquestionably another superb classic from proprietor Michel Reybier and his brilliant winemaker, Jean-Guillaume Prats. Drink it between 2017-2040.”
2003 Cos d’Estournel $375 bottle 98 Points Robert Parker “The prodigious, fantastic 2003 Cos d’Estournel is a candidate for “wine of the vintage.”
2000 Cos d’Estournel $265 bottle Magnums $850 each 96 Points Neal Martin “This is a fantastic Cos d’Estournel that is now blossoming with age. It is adorned with a lovely nose: blackberry, wild hedgerow, espresso, a touch of chocolate and sandalwood. Very fine definition and vigour. The palate is full-bodied with ripe tannins, superb symmetrical structure, dense, obdurate black fruits, a saline note, very well balanced, very focused, broadening out nicely towards the ravishing, supple finish. Excellent. Drink 2015-2040.”
1985 Cos d’Estournel $385 bottle 95 Points Robert Parker “Tasted 8 Times Since Bottling With Consistent Note. The 1985 is cast from the same mold as the 1982 and 1953 vintages. Forward, with a fabulously scented bouquet of toasty new oak and concentrated red and black fruits (especially black-cherries), it is rich, lush, long, and full-bodied.” |
