Subject: The Burgundy of choice for Thomas Jefferson!

Under the careful watch of the 12th generation, Domaine Parent is the heart of Pommard and today run by sisters Ann and Catherine Parent. Thomas Jefferson considered their ancestor, Etienne Parent, a personal advisor and friend and brought back to his Virgnia vineyards their pinot noir cuttings.
The grapes are hand picked, natively fermented and aged with a judicious use of oak. Ann described the 2012 vintage as having great freshness and energy, a “hypothetical mix of the 2009 and 2010 with the richness and generosity of the former allied with the balanced, intensity and precision of the later.” They only had 1/2 their usual production so bottles are extremely limited. Enjoy!
2012 Domaine Parent Corton Les Renardes Grand Cru
$225 bottle
91-94 Points Burghound
"There is really lovely energy and fine detail to the mineral-driven, delineated and powerful broad-shouldered flavors that are blessed with impressive reserves of palate coating dry extract that delivers terrific length on the austere and superbly complex finish. This is an old school Corton and will need a minimum of 8 to 10 years of cellar time to be approachable and reward 15 to 20."
2012 Domaine Parent Pommard Les Epenots Premier Cru
$175 bottle
♥ Sweet Spot Outstanding / 91-93 Points Burghound
"This is a powerful example with excellent size, weight and punch, all wrapped in a lingering finish where the only nit is a trace of warmth. If you have the discipline to wait for this to mature it should be outstanding in time."
2012 Domaine Parent Pommard Les Chaponnieres Premier Cru
$165 bottle
♥ Sweet Spot Outstanding / 90-93 Points Burghound
"Soft wood surrounds the ripe and fresh aromas of plum, raspberry and earth. There is excellent volume and richness to the middle weight plus flavors that possess a velvety mouth feel thanks to the abundant dry extract that also serves to buffer the very firm tannic spine on the moderately austere, balanced and strikingly long finish. This should be terrific in time though note that again patience is required."
2012 Domaine Parent Corton Blanc Grand Cru
$210 bottle
90-92 Points Wine Advocate
“The 2012 Corton Blanc Grand Cru comes from limestone bedrock overlaid with a shallow earth within the lieu-dit of 'En Regnet et Corton'. Even though it had just undergone batonnage, it has an alluring and vibrant lemon sherbet and lemon thyme bouquet with hints of vanilla. The palate is ripe and rounded on the entry with tropical fruit (papaya and passion fruit), whipped cream and almond scents – very sweet and seductive. The new oak is nicely integrated, lending this a slightly modern sheen, but it is still very well-balanced with plenty of complexity towards the satisfying finish. This will be a delicious Corton Blanc to enjoy over the next ten years.”—Neal Martin
