Bodegas Mauro was founded in 1978 by Mariano Garcia, who was for 30 years the winemaker at neighboring Vega Sicilia. Today Mariano is joined by his sons Eduardo and Alberto.
Many of the vines at Mauro are 60 or more years old, and the extraordinary Terreus vineyard exceeds 100 years in age. The small berries give wines of serious structure that require extended ageing first in cask, and then further ageing in bottle. The resulting wines share a dark rich color, great freshness and purity on the nose, and a fine balance between the oak and rich black fruit. On the palate they have a smooth style, silky texture and a fresh, vibrant energy that makes them light on their feet despite their weight.

It is fermented in stainless steel and matured in French and American oak barrels and foudres for 15 months. 2016 is a cooler, more Atlantic and more drinkable vintage with contained ripeness, fine tannins and nice balance.”
