2020 Paolo and Giampiero Bea Lapideus Umbria Bianco $90
From 80 Year Old Trebbiano Vines “Lapideus” is a rocket to ride, emphasizing drive and lift over layered density. It is still a wine of impressive power, especially given its modest 12% alcohol, but the fruit is more direct, pure, and foregrounded.

2018 Paolo and Giampiero Bea San Valentino Umbria Rosso $75
70% Sangiovese, 15% Sagrantino and 15% Montepulciano, all from a 50-year old vineyard. This wine is sourced from the San Valentino vineyard in Montefalco the soil of which is dominated by clay. The vineyard is at 1300 feet altitude.

2018 Paolo and Giampiero Bea Pagliaro Montefalco Sagrantino $135
Bea produces perhaps his most renowned wine from pure Sagrantino grown on the prized hilltop site of Pagliaro, situated at 1300 feet above sea level in Montefalco proper. Similar wines in that regard are the Syrah-based wines of the Northern Rhône.

2021 Monastero Suore Cistercensi Coenobium Lazio Bianco $35
Cistercian nuns has been organically farming their five hectares of vines in Vitorchiano, Lazio, since the early nineties, but it wasn’t until Giampiero Bea began advising them in the early 2000’s that their wines gained a larger audience. Produced in an entirely natural manner under the guidance of Giampiero Bea, the Coenobium is a blend of Trebbiano, Verdicchio, and Malvasia.
