Magnums 2016 Tschida Brutal $90 each A mixed field blend, topped up with Syrah. “It’s awesome. Tastes like red fruits, raspberries, underripe cherries; medium acid.” — Rachel Signer, Brave New Palate
Magnums 2016 Herve Souhaut Souteronne $80 each 60 to 80 year-old non-clone Gamay vines from the Northern Rhone. Nearly purple in the glass with a garnet rim. The nose is an enticing array of strawberry, black cherry, plum, fig paste, smoky herbs and pounded stones. Buoyant black fruit dominates the palate and is followed by pretty red berry tones, and smoky minerality that is framed by a judicious note of wood. This is an elegant and dynamic old vines Gamay with a fantastic level of purity and acidity!
Magnums 2016 Fabien Jouves Tu Vin Plus Aux Soiree $34 each Malbec and Cabernet Franc blend from Fabien Jouves, a fifth generation winemaker located in the southwest of France in the village of Trepoux-Rassiel, about 15 minutes away from the town of Cahors on a high hill. All natural wine-making and limited used oak gives a lively and lighter expression of the varietals and region. More Loire influence than Bordeaux-style.
Magnums 2015 Roilette Fleurie Cuvee Tardive $65 each One of the most admired producers in Fleurie, the Vendange Tardive is made from 80 year old Gamay vines. 93 Points Josh Raynolds “Bright magenta. Sexy, highly perfumed scents of red fruit liqueur, candied flowers and five-spice powder, along with a smoky mineral top note. Sappy, deeply concentrated raspberry and rose pastille flavors show impressive energy and are complicated by a suggestion of Asian spices that gains power in the glass. At once powerful and lithe, finishing very long, with impressive focus and silky, harmonious tannins.” |
