Subject: ✤Drinking Burgundy Old School!✤

Domaine Philippe Leclerc is a 19-acre estate in Gevrey-Chambertin. The historic Leclerc domaine was split in 1974 between Philippe and his older brother Rene. Philippe has Premier Cru parcels in Les Cazetiers, Les Champeaux and La Combe au Moine, as well as village crus in Gevrey-Chambertin and Chambolle-Musigny.

Les Bons Batons lies at the border of Chambolle-Musigny and Gilly-les-Citeaux, just across the main road from Chambolle proper, and it offers an earlier-drinking expression of Chambolle’s unmistakably sensual, finely mineral essence. It has incredible weight and power that you don’t see at this price any more.

2015 Domaine Philippe Leclerc Bourgogne "Les Bons Bâtons”
$432 case
Outstanding! A notably ripe yet still reasonably fresh nose displays a layered mix of both red and dark berry fruit along with plenty of pungent earth influence. The round and seductively textured flavors possess excellent volume while offering very good depth and length on the moderately rustic finish. This is quite good for its level though be aware that it's a full-on Bourgogne.” — Allen Meadows, Burghound
"Leclerc's 2015s are more interesting on which I did coax the opinion of 'they remind me of my 1985s with a bit of 2003 thrown in.' As I have reported in the past, Leclerc again noted that he is now trying to produce 'spherical rather than cubic wines,' which is to say wines that are less structured and rustic than he once made. Leclerc also noted that his 2015s were bottled in September 2017, which means that they received fully 24 months of élevage and which is becoming rare in modern Burgundy.” — Allen Meadows, Burghound
