2017 Portovino Monica di Sardegna Cardedu Praja

Monica is an indigenous grape variety from Sardegna. The name Praja is Sardinian for "beach", and that is an excellent place to drink this refreshing Italian red. It would benefit from being served with a slight chill too. It is light in body and color with an earthy and spicy edge supported by a touch of red berry fruit.
The vineyards of Cardedu (car-DAY-do) are in the area of Ogliastra, the most mountainous and least populous province on the island; a land of turquoise shimmer and ragged-dry cliffs. Fermented with native yeasts in temperature controlled tanks, and there’s dry farming without the use of herbicides or pesticides.
