2014 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet 1er Cru Morgeot Vigne Blanche $90 bottle Single vineyard “Vigne Blanche” within the Morgeot vineyard. Amazing quality. All estate owned and native yeast.
♥ “Outstanding. An overtly floral-suffused nose is liberally laced with pear, apple and discreet wood nuances. There is once again excellent volume to the rich, concentrated and full-bodied flavors that exhibit plenty of power on the opulent yet refreshing and well-balanced finish. A classic Morgeot of muscle and richness.” — Allen Meadows

2013 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru Clos Saint Jean $60 bottle ♥ “Here too there is a subtle application of wood that serves as a backdrop to the earthy, sauvage and humus inflected red berry fruit and floral scents. The mouth feel of the medium weight flavors is an exercise in contrasts as it is cool yet seductive before concluding in a saline, balanced and ever-so-mildly austere finish.” — Allen Meadows

2013 Chateau de la Maltroye Chassagne Montrachet Rouge 1er Cru La Boudriotte $55 bottle ♥ “A beguilingly fresh nose features a lovely mélange of red berry fruit, lavender, spice and an abundance of earth aromas that are trimmed in enough wood to warrant noting. There is fine volume and mid-palate concentration that adds texture to the lightly mineral-infused flavors that deliver solid length.” — Allen Meadows

A family domaine of 40 acres in Chassagne-Montrachet producing from two estate villages, Chassagne-Montrachet and Santenay.
Background of the Chateau:
• Owner: Jean Pierre Cournut • Soil: solid limestone with sand and small stones. Pinot Noir vineyards have clay. • Production: 60% White, 40% red. Jean Pierre is ‘defending’ Pinot Noir in Chassagne, a region that makes mostly Chardonnay (about 80%) • Farming is sustainable since 1998, with plowing and work between vines. • Jean Pierre restored the 15th Century cellar. Both the cellar and the vineyard in front of the Chateau (the Clos du Chateau) were hand cut out of solid limestone over 500 years ago. The cellar was recently sand blasted to return the original pure white luster. • Jean Pierre is an avid modern art collector. Beginning with the 2009 vintage, he changed the labels used since his grandfather’s time to the modern ones above. Jean Pierre is a friend of the artist and he owns the original artwork. He preserved the memory of the old label by featuring it on the capsule (an image of the Chateau with its Clos du Chateau).
