Pierre Meurgey is the pure product of Burgundy, with deep family roots selling and making wine in Burgundy for generations. For twenty years Meurgey was director at Domaine Champy, bringing that estate to international fame. Like his good friend Dominique Lafon, Meurgey knew of the untapped potential to make exceptional wines in his native Maconnais, as evidenced by his selection below. But beware: Burgundy drinkers are catching onto the great quality and value of this region and with the near perfect 2014 vintage, these are the last of the stock! |

The Mâconnais on the Move
“The Mâconnais region of southern Burgundy has been radically transformed in recent decades. And the best is yet to come. .. a new generation of growers favoring quality over quantity has gotten far more serious about controlling yields and making wines with greater complexity, depth and potential longevity. The 2014 are classic wines … and typically show a broad range of fresh aromas, lovely definition and tension in the mouth owing to harmonious acidity, good terroir-driven mineral character, and solid structure and grip. It’s a vintage that will give relatively early pleasure owing to its balance but should age well.” —Stephen Tanzer |

2014 Meurgey-Croses Saint Veran Clos de la Maison
$210 6pack
60-year old vines. The wine is mostly vinified in stainless steel tanks, with up to 20% fermented and aged in oak barrels for older vines. This facilitates the full expression of the potential of old vines and the complexity of these terroirs. |

2014 Meurgey-Croses Pouilly Fuisse Vieilles Vignes
$276 6pack
Pierre’s "Grand Cru" is fully fermented in "Burgundian" barrels of 228 liters with a moderate use of new oak not exceeding 20%. The parcels on the climates of high Pouilly and very old vines are those housed in new oak barrels because their concentration and complexity fully benefit from the contribution of wood. A longer aging, until bottling in the late summer, releases the expression of this great terroir. |
