93 Points Robert Parker “The finest Beychevelle since the 2003 and probably since the 1982, Beychevelle’s 2009 is opaque purple in color, with a beautiful, floral nose intermixed with black currant fruit, licorice, cedar wood and Christmas fruitcake. Full-bodied yet still elegant and pure, this wine has velvety tannins, a broad, savory mouthfeel, and a very long finish. There is plenty of tannin behind the extravagant fruit, glycerin and texture of this wine, but it is largely concealed. This wine could actually turn out to be even better than my relatively conservative tasting note. Anticipated maturity: 2020-2042.”

91 Points Wine Spectator “A solid core of cassis and blackberry fruit is liberally framed by dark cocoa and espresso notes and carried through the caressing, blueberry-, spice- and licorice-filled finish. A modern style that will have fans for sure. Best from 2014 through 2025.”
Notes by Robert Parker “This final blend of 55% Cabernet Sauvignon, 40% Merlot and the rest Cabernet Franc hit 13.5% natural alcohol. Never one of my favorite wines, the 2010 is certainly a major, if not dramatic, improvement. Deep, subtle, herbaceous black currant fruit, cedar and Christmas fruitcake jump from the glass of this medium to full-bodied, ripe, well-made wine, which displays some subtle oak as well as excellent ripeness, texture and length. It should drink well for at least 15 or more years. This under-achieving estate, which is under the same management as Chateau Lilian Ladouys, seems to have made a huge step forward with this wine.”

94 Points Robert Parker “The finest Giscours in my professional career (I said the same thing from barrel), this dense purple wine has a stunning nose of burning embers, charcoal, creme de cassis, new saddle leather and damp, forest floor notes. It is full-bodied, with exceptionally sweet, well-integrated tannins and a multi-dimensional, almost skyscraper-like mid-palate and finish. With its low acidity and remarkable substance and depth, this gorgeous wine should age beautifully for 20-30 years.”

A total gem!
97 Points Robert Parker “The final blend of 78% Cabernet Sauvignon and 22% Merlot has resulted in a wine of great power, stature, gravitas and density. The wine has a black purple color and a brilliant nose of scorched earth, creme de cassis, espresso roast, blackberries, truffles and licorice. Full-bodied, extremely powerful, yet with abundant sweet tannin, this stunning effort should prove sensational if given 7-10 years of cellaring. It should also last for 30-40 years. This is another brilliant wine from Jean-Louis Triaud, who is also responsible for the brilliant resurrection of the cru bourgeois, Gloria. This is one of the smallest estates in St.-Julien, with only about 6,000 cases produced, and even less were produced in 2010 than in 2009.”

The greatest GPL ever?
95 Points Robert Parker “Performing better from bottle than it did from cask (and comparable to their wines 2005, 2000, 1990 and 1982), this is a great classic from Xavier Borie’s estate situated on the back roads west of the town of Pauillac. Its dense ruby/purple color is followed by hints of spring flowers, crushed rocks, black currants, cedar and earth/underbrush. Precise and elegant as well as backward and foreboding, it should put on weight in the bottle and evolve for two decades. Very concentrated as well as velvety-textured, it is a beauty of finesse, balance, purity and nobility. It will benefit from 5-7 more years of bottle age.” |

91 Points Wine Advocate “The Les Ormes de Pez has a vivacious bouquet with ripe blackberry, briary and cedar fruit - nicely defined and a little more exuberant that its peers. The palate is medium-bodied with grainy tannins, a core of ripe blackberry and raspberry fruit laced with white pepper, leading to a nicely composed, slightly fleshy finish. Forward and alluring - this is a great Saint Estephe that should be afforded a decade in the cellar. Tasted November 2012.”
