Subject: 2009 Galardi Terra di Lavoro -- Best Price in Town!!!

The family-owned Galardi estate produces just one wine (made by the genius Riccardo Cotarella)….but it does so perfectly. Located on volcanic soils in northwestern Campania, the vineyards are nestled among chestnut groves and benefit from cool Mediterranean Sea breezes. Terra di Lavoro actually means “land of work” in Italian, a name that has historical roots, but also accurately reflects the difficulty involved in growing grapes in these volcanic soils. In this challenging environment, Aglianico and its supporting grape Piedirosso produce wines of incredible depth, complexity, and elegance.

93 Points Antonio Galloni
"This is one of the most open, approachable young Terra di Lavoros I have ever tasted. The wine shows good intensity in its dark fruit, with layers of ash, smoke, crushed flowers and minerals that develop in the glass. The 2009 is a pretty, accessible Terra di Lavoro that will make a great introduction for readers who are new to the wine. Terra di Lavoro is 80% Aglianico and 20% Piedirosso. The 2009 spent 14 months in French oak barrels, 70% new."
