"Typical of the concentrated wines from the Cotes de Castillon, Chateau Portillon has strong blackcurrant notes. It is made by the award winning local cooperative La Corderie in Saint Magne de Castillon near historic Castillon la Bataille (named for the battle that brought an end to the Hundred Years War). This beautiful region is a fabulous source of tremendous wines with some of Bordeaux’s most talented wine producers investing in the area (including Gerard Perse of Premier Cru Chateau Pavie, Count Von Neipperg of Premier Cru Chateau Canon La Gaffeliere and the famous consultant Stephane Derenoncourt).
