2017 Altolandon Bobal ‘Mil Historias’ $16 bottle 100% Bobal, handpicked and fermented in tank with indigenous yeasts after a two-week prefermentation maceration. Aged for four months in French oak barrels. |
| 90 Points Vinous “Inky ruby. Ripe dark berries, cherry pit, licorice, pipe tobacco and a hint of smokiness on the fragrant nose. Distinctly rich but energetic as well, showing smooth texture and concentrated blackberry, bitter cherry and succulent herb flavors. Finishes long and supple, with rounded tannins supporting lingering dark berry and sweet chewing tobacco notes.” — Josh Raynolds

| Altolandon Estate The 120-hectare organically-cultivated finca of Altolandón sits at the high, dry altitude of 1100 meters in the appellation of Manchuela, where the Mediterranean coastal ranges of Valencia begin to settle into Spain’s vast central plateau. The estate’s philosophy is ‘el vino lo hacemos en la uva’: quality wine from quality grapes– not such a tall order when the bodega sits right amidst the pesticide-free vineyards. The poor, rocky soils and brisk, high-altitude climate conspire to produce fully ripe yet high-acid and high-tannin Bobal and Garnacha grapes, leading to wines of eye-popping color and electric fruit and texture. |
