Subject: ☂ Brunello Classic / Vertical Offer ☁

BRUNELLO DI MONTALCINO is synonymous with high quality for most of us who enjoy a good glass of wine, but it has to be said that a lot of wines labeled with the famous DOCG name fall well short of the high expectations set by their price tags.  It is undeniable that some wines are shamelessly made to fit a certain taste trend, with flesh and no substance, their lack of complexity and soul often masked by new wood flavor and over extraction providing a fake sense of depth. This unfortunately has clouded the general impression of what Brunello can be, painting this powerful and muscular persona of a "big" wine.

There was always one winery on my radar that offered an unique and more elegant Brunello experience, and though names like Biondi-Santi and Soldera come to mind as the standard-bearers, LE MACIOCHE, a small estate just down the road from the former, remained under the radar for quite a while. Their traditional approach and high altitude vineyards always yielded pure wines, with depth and texture, yet a certain sense of restraint and aromatic definition that the "big" wines lacked.

The estate has changed hands last year, and now it is owned by the famous Cotarella brothers, Ricardo and Renzo, known for having a heavy hand with oak through the years.  Things will change for sure, but how, only time will tell.

We have re-encountered some of the vintages that captured my attention in the past, and pieced together an offer to bring this Tuscan treasure to your cellar and table.

The estate was converted to organic viticulture in 2000, and all wines ferment spontaneously with their native yeasts. At the conclusion of the malolactic fermentation, the wine rests in 3,000 liter "botte" for 40 months prior to bottling.
