Hi Friend!
Great Monday to you!
Phase 8 has begun and we're out of the gates strong. Lots of people are finding the 1-leg lateral hops with a stick in the medial direction (or towards your inside) to be challenging, especially when compared to the lateral direction or (towards your outside). And the Left / Right imbalances from 1-leg to the next is also super surprising and fun to discover. A great example of "you don't know what you don't know, until you know".
There are many reasons we introduced hurdle jumps and hops and one of the best reasons to introduce the single leg hops is to reduce your risk for lower body injuries, especially ACL injuries. People with the ability to both decelerate safely & rapidly, absorb force and impact, push off and change direction have lower risk for knee injuries compared to those that can't. This is important because (a) no one wants to get hurt and (b) most sports are done on 1-leg vs. 2-legs and most ACL and knee injuries happen on 1-leg vs. 2-legs.
Hey, you know anything can happen at any time, good or bad and you also know that by showing up and making the time to work on your health, body composition and performance allows you to reduce your injury risk, have fun and get better in all ways. It's a new day, a new week, a new month and a new phase, so let's keep going.
What'd you do for cardio minutes in week 3 (26min/class), empowerment week and how many challenge workouts did you do last week?
