Hi Friend!
Wednesday Vanessa and I had a "scheduled" call to talk about July. July's a busy month for many people, and it is for us as well, so we wanted to go over the calendar together and make a plan.
Recurring Appointment One thing that's a recurring appointment on our home calendar is family self-care. Every Saturday and Sunday morning, its there. We either do a UGIG (you go, I go) or we move as a family.
Self-Care for Sanity Since we have a number of weekend plans in July, we needed to talk about them AND how and where we can fit in our self-care. Its a real must for us as I imagine it is for you. It's not only about our health & fitness goals, but it's about our sanity. It's a way to take care of our bodies and our minds. A chance to decompress, blow off steam, be still, be intense, move, stretch, run, feel good, change our state, get happy, prime our weekends, so many things. And we get to do it without guilt because we know the other partner is 100% o.k. with running the house and hanging with Vivi during a family day.
Scheduling Weekday schedules and weekend schedules may or may not be different and/or easier for you, but everyone has to do self-care to feel good and get better. The easiest way to ensure your success is to schedule time for yourself each week.
Step 1. You know your windows of opportunity better than anyone, so schedule the times when you can consistently show up and make it recurring appointment.
Step 2. Show up!
Step 3 is to also to have a recurring task on your to do list to fit in "x", so that you have the flexibility over 7 days to get it done. This one needs to be easy and short (15min or less), so it actually gets done. When that window presents itself, you do it!
This is good for the, "I need to go for a walk around the block today", or "I need to do 50 push ups today", or "I need to stretch my calves, quads, chest, ... today", or "I need to foam roll today", or "I need to do my correctives today" ... or "I need to do some arm / butt / ab work today". Something short, simple, not too sweaty and easy to fit in those openings that happen from time to time.
So really, what gets scheduled, gets done and if self-care is important to you and we both know it is, the easiest way to get it done is to schedule it and maybe step 4 is to get partner / peer support.
Happy wife ...,
