Social Support
When my best friend Ben and I get together at Martha's Vineyard for a 4th of July summer vacation, guess what we do? We train. We ride bikes, we lift weights, we sprint, we play hoops, we eat clean and then we throw back some beers and enjoy the weather.
When Vanessa, my girlfriend, and I get together for a date night, we often start the date night with a workout. We often use a challenge week workout or whichever is the "toughest workout" I've been raving about and do it wherever we are. Playground, park, driveway or gym, we've done it.
When I visit my family, my mom will always walk and stretch with me, my sister and her husband will lift weights and/or sprint with me and my cousins will do crazy workouts with me.
My colleagues love to train so that's an easy one.
Social support is a must to live an active lifestyle. If people don't understand what you do, if they've never tried what you do, then they're more likely to criticize and pull you down from being great. A great way to introduce people to what you do are guest days.
Guest Day builds your support circle and lets your friends understand better what you do to look and feel so great. Build your friend, family, neighborhood and work circles by inviting someone or all to join you in total body strength & conditioning workouts. They'll get strong, you'll get strong and you'll both leave sweaty, happy and glad you did it. Local guest days begin tonight and tomorrow and are the middle classes of the 3rd week of every phase.

New Holiday Traditions
A second way to increase your success at changing your body and transforming your life is to not sabotage your hard work. I highly encourage you to live in the moment and enjoy your holiday with those you care about (aka splurge with your buddies) AND I encourage you to start NEW Holiday Traditions built around empowering win-win habits like planned and/or spontaneous movement based activities like the Charity Turkey Workout.
The Charity Turkey Workout, aka Gobble, Gobble Turkey Toss, Give To Hungry Learn Fat Loss, is a do anywhere fat loss workout, where you learn a total body fat loss routine you can do with your family on Thanksgiving morning with minimal equipment (a back pack).
This years event is Wednesday, November 17, from 6-7pm at the Mackenzie Center, 1337 Centre St, Newton Centre. If you're on the fence, remember that nothing ventured equals nothing gained. It will be worth your time. You'll be glad you did it.
Do Anywhere Workouts
Every boot camp class and charity workout I teach involve Do Anywhere Workouts. Sometimes life is tight, you find yourself somewhere with minimal or no exercise equipment, you feel like crap and you need to sweat, get energized and move. You've got 5, 10, 15, 20... minutes to do it and you can't go to the gym where they have XYZ. What do you do? You improvise. You take the principles you've learned in class (timed sets, total body movements, use any equipment or just your body weight) and you do a Do Anywhere Workout.
Since we're on the subject of Do Anywhere Workouts. The 6:30pm class on Thursday, November 18 has been moved from the Mackenzie Center to the Newton Montessori School. Please park to the right of Sacred Heart Parish, walk to the front of the Montessori and someone will greet you and escort you to the gymnasium. It's not favorable, but it's part of building relationships within the community and being flexible. Besides it lets us practice our Do Anywhere Workouts. :)
