Here's What I Learned!- There are 3 platforms for their business model: rower, app and talent
- The True Rower will have 2 different feels: concept 2 and water.
- It's silent as in, no noise (except for your grunts), so if someone is sleeping, ...
- It's got a smart tablet screen. Ever seen one on a rower before? Me neither.
- It's connected to blue tooth so it updates daily. Use it one day and wake up and use a new rower the next.
- The technology behind it makes it like a real life video game (Ready Player 1), in which you can real time see your stats (Orange Theory Fitness) and compete with people near you or all over the world.
- There's a dashboard that keeps all your data so you can have your own baseball cards of stats.
- The App will be like Netflix for Rowing Workouts with real people doing all kinds of real workouts.
- The Talent. They hired, 5 "superstar" rowers and a coach, some of whom relocated from NY and the West Coast, to bring you real workouts and real programs and to teach you how to really row (at least on a rower).
- They're trainer friendly. As in, they invited trainers in to learn how they could make their rowers better for users. What do clients need and want from the coaches perspective. They know rowing machines aren't the only form of exercise people need, so they wanted to know how it could compliment everything else.
- The rowers are commercial grade, which means they shouldn't break down.
Cost $2100 / rower and $40/mo for app, which are roughly the same prices of the Peloton bike and app membership.
IndieGoGo Since crew is a start up company they'll be doing an IndieGoGo campaign, which is like kickstarter, in that its a fundraising website for new products to see if consumers want them. Consumers get sweet deals on never before sold products to help new start ups raise capital to grow their business.
Crew's launch date is in early September and goes until October 15. To help them get a lot of buzz they're already pre-selling the rowers (I saw the pre-sell list of customers on the wall). The True Rower will sell for ~$1500 and include a years worth of the app, but don't quote me on the app as I can't recall.
Results As you've seen by all the interval studies I've shared with you, interval training (HIIT) beats steady-state training for fat loss and body composition changes, so if you care about health, body transformation and performance, build High Intensity Intermittent Training into your weekly routine.
I believe every study I shared with you in the past on interval training was done on a recumbent or stationary bike. The last thing I recommend anyone who sits a lot to do is to sit more, so that's part of the reason why the "cardio minutes" goals I give to clients, count swimming, biking and rowing exercises as half time, because you're not weight bearing. Whereas treadmills, running, basketball, tennis, step mill, stair master, skiing, paddle boarding, volleyball, soccer, etc... all count 100%. 60 minutes of those activities earns you 60 minutes of exercise. Do intervals while you stand and anticipate faster and better results based on the research and the fact that you're weight bearing.
In any event, if you're going to sit, the rower is a much better workout because its full body. You can get much better happy hormone highs (endocrine responses) because its full body. Plus it works more of the posterior chain, especially the upper back, and its a closed chain exercise, which means your butt and feet are fixed, so your risk of injury is further reduced.
CrossFit probably deserves a lot of credit for showing the masses how to incorporate rowers with full body workouts because it works and its fun.
You already know I'm not a fan of rowing to warm up, especially if you're going to pair rowing with strength training, but if you're going to row and your body feels good, there are times it could be o.k. to row to warm up, but I'd probably still recommend and practice rolling, stretching and activating muscles and movements before I trained because it feels good and reduces my risk for injury.
Interest If you're interested in learning more about the rower and/or you want to get on the pre-sale list, email Norm, norm@truerowing.com, and tell him I referred you. He helped me with my Treadmill Workouts idea and I'd like to support him if you're interested. He'll also be better much better able to answer any questions you have.
Wishing I was on the water,
Coach Mike
p.p.s. or maybe wishing I had some seafood (I'm hungry).
p.p.p.s. if you're interested in a custom cardio workout using a rower, bike, treadmill or other, reply and let me know. |
