Subject: Plan for Tomorrow's Fenway Spartan Race!

Hi Friend!

Tomorrow's the big day for our 9 Fenway Spartan Participants (Mike & Lauren C, Amy L, Pete K, Madeline M, Sean C, Christine M, her son Dylan and myself)!  I'm a little nervous and that's o.k.  It helps me to focus and think of things which helps to bring out my best effort b/c I focus and prepare better.

Speaking of preparation.  Here's our Team Meet Up Plan

Where & When do we meet?
Option 1: 7am @ Boston Beer Works
Option 2: 7:45am @ SGX Warm Up Area

Where & When do we warm up?
• 8:05am SGX Warm Up Area (roll @ home or outside your car)

What to Bring?
• Cash ($5 bag check):
• I.D.
• Back Pack
Weather 55 & Sunny
• Shorts
• Moisture wicking t-shirt / muscle / tank
• Long sleeve
• Forearm & calf sleeves (long socks)
• Cross Trainer Sneakers
• Pants
• Hat or Ski Hat (for standing around waiting)
• Hoody or Wind Breaker (for standing around waiting)
• Change of clothes
• Mud Bag for dirty clothes
• Water & Snack

Nutrition
Saturday, Night before the event
Balanced Meal for Dinner (balanced w/ a starch)
  • Men: 2 palms protein, 2 fists greens, 2 cupped hands of either fruit, beans or any starch, 2 thumbs of fat, water; if hungrier eat more;
  • Ladies: 1 palm protein, 1 fist greens, 1 cupped hand of either fruit, beans or any starch, 1 thumb fat, water, if hungrier eat more;
Sunday, Race Day!
• 5:30-6:15a Breakfast (Balanced w/ a Starch)
  • Eat what your stomach / digestion / GI tract is comfortable with that will yield high energy for 9:30-11am.
  • Men: 2 palms protein, 2 fists greens, 2 cupped hands of either fruit, beans or any starch, 2 thumbs fat, water, coffee or green tea; eat until content
  • Women: 1 palm protein, 1 fist green, 1 cupped hand of either fruit, beans or startch, 1 thumb of fat, water, coffee or green tea; eat until content
  • E.g. Mike’s Breakfast: cup of egg whites, giant handful of spinach, apple, ¾ c oatmeal, 2 thumbs of mixed nuts, 24 oz water, 8-16oz black coffee, vitamins (D & multi)
• 8:30-9a Pre-Race Snack
  • Something easily digestible that will increase blood glucose (provide energy), not make you feel full or have to use bathroom;
  • Note: The Fenway Spartan Race is roughly a 60min workout for our team, but you’re arriving early and using energy & nerves just standing around, warming up, moving, so we want to replenish energy, but not slow digestion;
  • E.g. PBJ, bagel, bacon, muffin, oranges, granola bar, lara bar, protein shake, orange juice, milk; note: you know yourself; only eat enough to give yourself some fuel and energy, but not so you feel full; it’s a snack;
• Post Race – 15-30min
  • Protein & Carb (1:2 ratio) easily digestible (shake, bar or whole food), low in fat (b/c fat slows digestion)
  • E.g. chocolate milk, protein powder & water w/ banana, protein powder & juice, PBJ, protein bar,
  • E.g. Mike’s snack, banana & Lara Bar (cashew cookie)
• Post Race -1 to 2 hours after
  • Balanced Meal for Lunch (balanced w/ a starch)
  • Men: 2 palms protein, 2 fists greens, 2 cupped hands of either fruit, beans or any starch, 2 thumbs of fat, water; if hungrier eat more;
  • Ladies: 1 palm protein, 1 fist greens, 1 cupped hand of either fruit, beans or any starch, 1 thumb fat, water, if hungrier eat more;

Tips
  • Try to do your bathroom trip before you leave home.  If you're not ready and you're super early, you'll have 1st dibs on restrooms.
  • Roll before you leave or outside your car after parking.
  • Wear a heart rate monitor if you have one.

p.p.s.  Spectator Sign Up.  It looks like the last chance to sign up as a spectator online was Friday because that's when I signed Vanessa up.  You might be able to sign up in person to watch (it was Free to sign up Vanessa).  If you or someone else chooses to come, bring signed copies of both waivers above to save time.
