*A little irony and intentionality from me. Vanessa very much makes sure Vivi / we sit while we eat at home, so standing and eating apps will make me laugh inside like I'm getting away with something (how come Daddy is standing). The dinner however will feel very much like home, minus Vivi's stool to reach the counter, in that it'll be a buffet dinner served family style with pre-plated, pre-portioned desserts (you're only allowed to eat as much as you want of desserts at snack time) also served at the same time as the dinner. So you can eat dessert first if you want and then whatever stomach space is left, you can fill with your dinner.
Pre-Fixe Menu Speaking of dinner, here's our menu again.
Appetizers:
1. Grilled Shrimp w/ dill and lemon remoulade 2. Crostini w/ Brie, apple and honey 3. Tuna Tartare & avocado, served on a lotus chip
Entree: 1. Seared Salmon with pearl couscous, earl grey apricots, beech mushrooms, pickled red onions, broccolini, chermoula. 2. Tenderloin Carving Station with asparagus, confit potatoes, au jus 3. Mushroom Risotto

Photos There will be a photographer on hand to capture the evening. His name is Adam and I've asked him to capture specific things: - you when you're in groups (he'll ask if you want your photo taken)
- Professional Head Shots for your online profile pics (can I get a head shot)
- the food, atmosphere and menus
- me with you
- a big group shot
Feel free to ask him to capture any shots you think would be great. Also, I'll make all photos available to you once I receive them. They're a gift to celebrate the occasion.
Theming Behind Party Back in my Work Hard, Play Hard days, long before the Work Hard, Rest Hard evolution, going out on a Saturday night was an event for me. It would start with a late morning All American Workout, which consisted of arms, abs, shoulders, chest & back, to make my blue, DKNY polo shirt extra fitted. I'd then do errands and whatever, take a long power nap, and then start my very methodical pre-game. Grooming, pizza, beer, Tanqueray 10 and Soda, music, cards and then make my way out with my crew. I loved lounges. Being on your feet training people and training yourself all week, makes for tired legs, especially when it was basketball, softball, Krav and triathlon season, so cool lounges with cozy sofas were favorites, allowing me to rest until it was time to dance (I like to dance and I think I'm making up for middle school and high school when I was too shy).
Later after my Tia Teresa would tell me at weddings that I was too stiff while Portuguese Folk dancing I added stretching to my pre-game wedding routines.
Party Pre-Game Recommendations! So here's what I recommend and what the Alves family will be doing.
- Get a workout in to prime yourself to present your best self.
- Do your errands. Live your life.
- Get some movies for kids and/or yourself
- Power nap (we're getting a movie for Vivi, so we can nap b/w lunch and snack time).
- Stretch a little to get loose
- Groom.
- Pre-game and eat a bit.
- Listen to fun music.
- Dress however makes you feel good! I'll be wearing a navy sports coat, blue polo, khaki pants, and brownish shoes. I can drop like it's in the pants and they shouldn't split because Vanessa and the salesperson, suggested I go up a size. Vanessa will be wearing a cream dress that goes to her knees, that has sleeves and should be fun to dance in as well. (I hope the dj plays some fun music).
- Show up ready to make memories!
And that's all I got. Time for bed. I hope to see everyone who's in town and available tomorrow morning. Otherwise, we'll see those unable to participate this weekend next week.
