Feeling Like A Kid
The one that stands out the most is the feeling like a kid again. I remember when I was a kid the days felt so long, the street light didn't come on for what felt like forever, which meant I didn't have to be home for what felt like forever and summers felt like an eternity.
That feeling gradually disappeared as I got older, more independent and chose to take on more responsibilities, but to unexpectedly get to experience it again, while I'm young & healthy and before I retire and get to experience it with my soon to be 6 year old, through her eyes, is a treasure. It is definitely making lemonade of a non-ideal situation.
And You
I'm really grateful you value your health so greatly and that you did the math in your head to figure out what that means and what that looks like for you, which led you to value a service, a program, a community and a coach like CYBBC and me, so much so that you made it a priority, a staple, a part of your life, a part of your routine, a part of your schedule and a part of your identity.
Think about the alternative. You could have chosen a health club, or group classes, or boutique classes or even performance training facilities. Heck you could have even chosen a different personal trainer / coach, but most if not all of these options, would not have required you to have any equipment of your own, like we do (because it eliminates an excuse), because it would have been provided, so you'd have been stuck piecing together equipment (if you could find it), when shelter at home happened, trying to learn new programming and completely different workouts than what you've been doing with no equipment. It would have been possible, but really different and probably no where near as fun or effective.
We have some differences too from our regular workouts (no sprints, med balls, hurdles, ladders, cones, TRX's, pull up bars, benches, people, partners, kick ass weigh ins, private measurements and high fives) and it's probably not as fun, but outside of those really valuable differences, we've stayed the same. Same structure, same or similar exercises, same time slots, same people, same coach. We didn't skip a beat. We were proactive before mandated. And this means that the option for you to keep going like normal was available to you (if of course it worked for you, i.e. dependents / work / space), so you could continue in this new unknown period of time with at least one thing consistent and familiar that you could count on. Your prioritizing of your health through self-care.
So I'm grateful for you, for seeing your big picture and finding me and letting me be a part of it.
Making lemonade,
Coach Mike
