Hi Friend!
I came across this quote and I thought you might draw inspiration from it. Dave Ramsey is a Nationally Syndicated Radio Host based out of Tennessee. He's written multiple books with his two most popular being the Total Money Makeover and Financial Peace. I'm not a financial coach, I'm a Strength & Conditioning coach and Athletic Trainer, so I'm not pushing anything and I'm not going to give you any unsolicited advice on handling money. #nojudgement. #Iknowmyplace. #notgivingunsolicitedopinions.
However, I'm sure you like to feel and be inspired by people who overcome great odds to make it, so this little read, might be just what you need to get going on your day and towards your goals. Enjoy!
"A broke guy wrote a book on how to handle money. That’s a dumb idea. I didn’t know how to write a book. I knew a guy who could talk to a publisher. They laughed at me. I was devastated. I’m not smart enough to take no for an answer, so I wrote to the publisher offering to sell my book for a $12,000 advance. They laughed again. I asked a bookstore to sell a few copies. They were not nice. I took my no-publisher book to the VHS rental store that my friend owned. He finally agreed to put my books on the counter. My first distributor was secured… a video rental store. That’s a dumb idea. The book was about having no debt & cutting up your credit cards, so I thought the bank should give it to customers to show they care. It was the only bank that didn’t lose money on me when I went bankrupt before I wrote my how to handle money book. That’s a dumb idea. They never called back. I waited to be discovered. It never happened. I thought getting noticed would be easy. It wasn’t. That bank got sold to a bigger bank & now nobody remembers them. Now, banks sponsor our curriculum that tells students to avoid debt & cut up their credit cards. Years later, a New York publisher bought my book with an advance that had so many 0’s I couldn’t comprehend it. Taking $12,000 years earlier would have been a REALLY dumb idea. Financial Peace has now sold over 2.5 million copies, & its big brother The Total Money Makeover has sold over 6 million copies. When you’re successful, folks only see the current you. They don’t see the rejections, dumb ideas, betrayals, & bruises. The shiny mountain of success isn’t shiny at all. The people who win are tough-minded. The mountain is really a pile of garbage, but they’re standing on it rather than buried under it. They keep going & course-correcting. It’s possible that the greatest trait of people who win is simply perseverance. They usually are NOT smarter. They usually didn’t go to a fancy-schmancy school, or have rich parents. They course-corrected & never quit. I think that’s you. You’re going to be more than you ever dreamed. I think you have what it takes. Some folks think it should be easy to win. That’s a dumb idea. #debtfreecommunity"
