Subject: "I wish I had your motivation."

Hi Friend!

He said, "I wish I had your motivation!".

Wow.  What great feedback to hear and reinforcement for my effort to get in a workout and finish it.

Today I was tired.  My body felt beat up.  I was moving a little slow.  I wasn't sure I was going to keep my workout, but I was able to talk myself into it.

A Conversation with Myself
I don't miss workouts, I said to myself.

Listen to high energy music, not talk radio.

You don't feel hungry, but if you feel low energy, drink your shake before vs after.

Get on the gym floor as fast as you can.

Roll first.  That always makes you feel good.

Address what doesn't feel good next to get yourself back to neutral, even if it takes up your whole workout time.

Start your warm up and see how you feel from there.

Do the agility ladder because it's fun and energizing.

How much time do you have left?

There's enough time to get through the rest of the workout if we do 1 set / exercise.

Do 1 set with best effort per exercise, except, DB Swings & Band Diagonal Raises.  Do 1 set per hand, which equals 2 sets per exercise.

Shoot.  Today is pull ups.  Gotta get my 4 sets and a PR.  Hmm?  I'll do 1 set after each pair of exercises.  1set after MBs + Hurdles, 1 set after Get Ups & Skaters, 1 set after Swings & Diagonal Raises, 1set with strength and 1 set after conditioning.

High Five.  You got a PR on pull ups.

Put your stuff away.  You did it Mikey!  Well done.

...then...I received the compliment.

"I wish I had your motivation!"

And that was the gravy on top of a workout built by positive self-talk and thoughtful modifications.

Whether you choose to think about all the reasons you can't or all the reasons you can, you'll be right either way.  Why not game yourself by thinking about all the reasons you can, how you can and why you can and at the same time, don't think too much, just show up, go easy and use autopilot (go through the motions) as long as you need or until you feel you can do more.  At the end, you'll get the win for showing up and keeping your commitment to yourself and that is how you can build momentum.

#feelinggrateful,

Coach Mike
