Hi Friend!
Great day to you! Today I'm writing from the 2nd floor of the Newton Free Library and I'm facing the Newton Cemetery. One thing I love about Newton are the trees. There are so many big, beautiful trees. It feels refreshing to stare out and look at the different colors of foliage on the trees and on the ground. |
| Plus you get to see weird things like Turkeys hopping fences. |
| Blue Hills Yesterday morning over breakfast, Vanessa was telling me that whatever we did that day, could we also make sure to get 90 minutes of moderately intense cardio? I thought it was funny that she was so prescriptive, but I said, sure Babe, and thought about what we could do. We've got a 90 min door-to-door, JFK / Umass Harbor Walk, but that's not moderately intense. We've got a 3-4hr door-to-door, Castle Island Walk, but that's too long to run w/ Vivi, so I thought we'd try the Blue Hills. |
| | Yellow Triangles
We've done the Blue Skyline Trail with and without Vivi, the Paved Road Walk near Houghton Pond, the Green Dot Trail around Tucker Hill, but never the Yellow Triangle trail, so we gave that a shot. We brought the baby jogger and all 3 of us ran when we could and hiked when we couldn't. Vivi ran and walked with us, except for when she wanted to sit or be carried. It took us 2 hours and it was great. About 60 minutes into it, we felt like we were Forest Bathing like the Japanese, with all the fresh air and nature. 2 deers, one 1 tailed, ran past us, and it was simply recharging. When we were done, we were super hungry, crushed some homemade trail mix and then went about our day. |
| | That 2 hour chunk helped put me over the top for my cardio goal for the week and gave my little family good chi and tired legs for the rest of the day.
I hope you're having a great start to your week. Keep going and if you want to plan some social activity with your friends or family, give the Blue Hills a try.
Coach Mike
p.s. what'd you do for cardio minutes last week? I got 253 (+78), so it was a good week. |
