BIRCHALL LEADERSHIP AWARD
October 28th at the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum
2017 Recipient Astronaut Chris Hadfield
Air Commodore Leonard Birchall was a Royal Canadian Air Force officer in the Second World War whose heroic efforts resulted in his being called “The Saviour of Ceylon".
Through his 21 years as an Astronaut, three spaceflights and 2600 orbits of Earth, Colonel Hadfield has become a worldwide sensation, harnessing the power of social media to make outer space accessible to millions and infusing a sense of wonder into our collective consciousness not felt since humanity first walked on the moon. Called “the most famous astronaut since Neil Armstrong,” Colonel Hadfield continues to bring the marvels of science and space travel to everyone he encounters.
The Birchall Leadership Award is presented annually to honour the memory of Air Commodore Leonard Birchall who was an exemplary leader during World War Two in combat and in prisoner of war camps as well in post-war as a senior RCAF commander. The 2017 Gala is being jointly hosted by the Canadian Warplane Heritage Museum and the Royal Military Colleges Club (RMC Club) Hamilton branch.
