Grace C. L. Dorsey believes the journey God placed her on was for a reason: to help her learn to walk by faith. Life changed when the COVID-19 pandemic hit, altering her work as a nurse and her personal life as it had for so many others. She would find God also knew there would be even more for her to bear.
Dorsey, author and an elder at New Life-Seventh-day Adventist Church in Maryland, will be among those sharing their experiences and lessons learned at Praising God In the Midst of the Storm, ASI Columbia Union’s virtual event at 7:30 p.m. ET April 20. Lillian Torres, assistant evangelism director for the Pennsylvania Conference, will offer a message of hope for all who have experienced loss, be it of loved ones, in business or in ministry and for the many challenges of these times.
For Dorsey, the events of Feb. 10 are still deeply etched in her mind. That morning, her son Brent Ruben Joshua Dorsey, 30, told her he wasn’t feeling well. Knowing he had been diagnosed with immune thrombocytopenic purpura, where the body turns on itself and destroys platelets, she was concerned.
Brent Dorsey said he didn’t need an ambulance, so Grace Dorsey decided she would get ready for the day and then go to his apartment and check on him. She debated about whether to hurry or to have morning devotions as usual. She decided to spend time in prayer and texted a few other people, asking them to pray for him too.
