I feel awkward talking about the work I do as a writing coach.
It's hard to describe something so individualized, that doesn't offer a template, isn't one-size-fits-all.
So that's what writing coaching isn't.
You may wonder why I'm talking about writing coaching rn (right now).
It's because you get a 30-minute coaching session with me if you purchase the Author Super Bundle. I share details on that bundle and its sale below.
I don't do one-off coaching sessions anymore. I only offer them through my mastermind program.
So the Author Super Bundle is a good opportunity to get 1-1 help from me.
But what is coaching in general and writing coaching in specific?
Coaching is about being encouraging, about getting discerning individualized support that helps you gain clarity and take your next step toward what's important to you. To you, not me.
In a writing coaching session, I can help you discern what is truly important to you - if there are too many choices.
As if often the case with creative writers.
Or I can help you reconnect to your mojo so you can get back to your writing or editing or marketing.
Sometimes we lose our way because we've forgotten our WHY. Working with a writing coach can help you reconnect.
I deeply understand what it feels like to forget how important writing is and then to reconnect. That's practically a daily habit for me, and there's no shame in it. This act of stitching yourself together daily is the practice of being a creative.
As a creativity coach and a writing teacher, I talk to fellow writers and creatives all the time.
So I get you because I am you.
I guess you could say helping people is my profession, having worked as a teacher for over 25 years and as a coach for over 17 years.
And before that I had service jobs - in a library, bookstore, office admin and manager; and several years as a nanny.
And before that I played pretend office and pretend making stories up with whatever and whoever was around me.
In our writing coaching session, I'll listen to you, ask you lots of questions, and I'll believe in you - even if you aren't able to in that moment.
I believe we can get "there," wherever "there" is for you.
With my varied toolkit, I can hold space for you, no matter the tangled writing process issue or concern you bring, no matter the big dream, no matter the "weird" situation you may be facing.
I've probably seen it all by now - but maybe not. I love to be surprised. I love holding space for the new, odd, unusual, and wacky.
It's all beautiful - our problems, the creative process, our huge ambitions.
It take a lot of chutzpah to be a fiction writer.
I get that.
I walk the walk.
I love to learn and so my coaching toolkit is pretty big:
Certified Master Transformational NLP Practitioner, so I know how to get in synch with you.
Certified Creativity Coach, who knows the creative process and roadblocks.
Experienced teacher of English to non-native speakers, so know how learning takes place.
Trained in leadership; business; and entrepreneurial matters, with insight to all the steps.
An experienced award-winning novelist with 16 speculative novels written and 12 published - walking the walk, baby.
Editor of 100s of fiction manuscripts, so I've seen so many ways that things can go well and not so well.
Lived abroad three times and speak fluent French, mais oui! I have another world view embedded deep in me.
Amateur athlete, step-by-step though training to crossing the finish line; success is mostly mental!
Avid learner - reading articles and books, watching Youtube, and listening to podcast and random trainings, plus! Hungry to understand the world that will probably never be fully satiated.
Filmmaker - thinking in multiple mediums!
Podcaster - sharing and asking questions.
Training at School of International Futures - futures!
New Space Economy course, almost done! - learning!
All this to say I'm curious, I ask good questions, and I care very much that your story gets out into the world.
Why?
All my life the fiction I've read has opened up new worlds and perspectives to me, broadening my horizons, opening my heart, teaching me about who I am.
Your book can do that for readers too.
And why not?
Let's go!
If not now, when?
If not you, then who?
