| | Like a young horse learning to walk, I’m bringing out my service of NLP for Writers on wobbly yet confident legs.
I’ve been answering your questions individually about what is NLP for Writers based on what I shared a few weeks back (reposted here), so thought I’d bring a Q&A to you here in my weekly newsletter.
Marla (name used with permission) wanted to know if NLP for Writers was a class or a program.
I shared with her that right now it’s one-on-one sessions where I do a deep dive with writers on what they would like in their writing life.
I do have plans to eventually develop this material into a course and program, but that’s not for now.
Here are the kinds of situations NLP can help resolve:
-- I want to be writing an hour every day, but I go from my coffee to my TV, and before I know it, it’s 3pm. -- I want to be writing regularly but I don’t know where to begin. -- I want to be editing my novel, but... I also have other priorities. Yet I’m grumpy when I don’t work on my book. (This one is mine!) -- I want to write a novel, but who am I to do such a thing? -- Editing is taking so long; maybe I should give up. But I really don’t want to. So torn.
How does NLP help writers with these issues?
NLP isn’t therapy; it is changework, where we use conversation to help change the connections in your brain.
The way I was trained at NLP Marin was gentle, heart-centered, and focused on inner transformation.
I also bring in compassion from my Remembrance work and grounding and visualization tools from my training at the Berkeley Psychic Institute.
Most of our habits, maybe all of them, operate beneath the surface.
NLP helps bring light to how we form our habits and with the re-programming tools, I help you recreate your habits so they are more supportive of your goals.
If you want to be writing every day, but aren’t, that’s because your behavior -- which is really a combination of thoughts, feelings, and physical sensations linked to actions -- is supporting one goal of doing something else, instead of writing.
On top of that, we tend to make ourselves wrong or bad, or we feel we're wrong or bad, if we're not doing what we say we want to be doing.
NLP helps untangle all that, gently, so you do what you want, for example, write everyday.
I start with the premise that there is nothing wrong with you, with us.
We have our habits for a reason, usually a survival pattern we adopted quite young.
Most of our protective patterns are locked in by the time we are 3 years old.
With NLP, I can gently shed light on the young one within, and together we can bring support to the little one. So that you can feel supported then in the past (changing how you feel about the past), and in the now of today.
Past, present, and future, gets collapsed and moved around, as we do some timey wimey things with your consciousness.
It’s wacky, it’s wonderful, it works.
