When I discovered a Kickstarter training for novelists to sell direct to readers I was intrigued. Finally, a pathway to take charge of my author career.
The Kickstarter trainers have been-there-and-done-that very successfully and helped lots of other fiction authors succeed. And they're full of straight talk, tons of tech walkthroughs (thank you!), and have made all the mistakes so I didn't need to.
Their collective success is impressive -- over 20 successful campaigns raising over $300,00, to date.
I was excited to dive in, but also a little nervous.
Even though I like trying new things and have experimented with many marketing and sales activities that suit my values -- independence, creativity, can be highly customized, and are fun. (Define what's important to you, so you can uncover what marketing and sales actions are in alignment.)
Russel and Monica's Kickstarter training fit the bill. So I signed up for it.
The timing was right. I was planning to release my fourth Janey McCallister Mystery novel in about six months, and I was already thinking about my launch strategy.
Once I finished editing my novel and handed it off to my editorial team, I turned my attention to the Kickstarter training, and went through all the prep steps.
With the help of my cohorts alongside me in the training, I refined and refined again my message and got help making my sales page and the video better.
Then with excitement and nerves, I launched my Kickstarter campaign this past March 1, 2022 and got funded on Day 1 (!!!!) ... and tripled my modest goal by the end of my campaign.
These results inspire me to do a more ambitious campaign next year for the next book in my Janey McCallister Mystery series.
I'm already starting my planning, even as I write the next book.

One of the best things about this Kickstarter for novelists training is the many examples of previous successful campaigns to learn from our cohorts.
In fact, everyone who goes through their Kickstarter Accelerator program succeeds because of the teachers' Russell's and Monica's feedback.
And because the community of authors gives each other feedback, based on hard-won experience and growing expertise.
You too can join this community of expert teachers and active fiction authors, learning and launching all year round.
I was and still am very impressed with the level of support from my cohorts and the opportunities to connect with like-minded and similar genre authors for cross-promotions.
You are not alone in selling direct to your readers.
In fact, to succeed with your Kickstarter you need your community.
EARLY BIRD Bonuses are available now.
