On Doing Nothing + Story Rubric + Talking to Yourself in the 3rd Person

January 15, 2021
Oakland, CA

Doing nothing on my book... I've been low energy, depressed, if you want to give a name to it.

But you know, I've been here before -- the world is chaos and my creative mojo is low.

Before me is my book, waiting for final edits -- final decisions -- and I need to sink deeper into emotions and bring all of that to the page.

But all around me... and inside of me ... is murky, swampy...

I've been here before, I remind myself, and ride the wave of sadness, feeling powerless about all the chaos out there.

I take care of what I can and take care of my health and stay kind to myself.

It serves no one and nothing to be harsh on myself.

I've been here before -- this is my 11th novel I'll be publishing.

My friends remind me I will get my energy and enthusiasm back.

I'm staying gentle and kind to myself.

How are you doing?

Story Rubric from J. Thorn

Writing teacher and editor J. Thorn has shared a free story support tool this week that I highly recommend. He calls it a report card for your manuscript: https://theauthorlife.com/storyrubric/

Why You Should Talk to Yourself in the Third Person

I loved this article on why you should talk to yourself in the third person. Doing so helps you distance yourself from stress and anxiety and can help you edit your manuscript too. BTW, I learned this tool in my NLP training and find it so useful in all areas of my life.

Have a creative week!

All my best,

Beth
