You and I might come from opposite corners of the world, but I bet we share a common love: science fiction and fantasy stories.
For me, it all started with Star Trek, Star Wars, and the radio play, “Ruby The Galactic Gumshoe” from my childhood in the 70s. To name a few!
Oh! And The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy, also in radio play format, in the 70s along with Ruby The Galactic Gumshoe.
And Mary Poppins. Okay, stopping here.
These imaginative story worlds sparked my passion for writing and teaching.
Science fiction and fantasy have always been about exploring new frontiers, pushing boundaries, and imagining what could be.
They're a playground for our wildest dreams and deepest fears.
Of course, there were times I thought I'd never be able to do it.
As a kid, I didn't know how to write stories, not to mention how to create believable fantastical worlds. And I really wanted to know how.
When I turned 18, the dream of being a novelist crystallized in my mind. I was certain I would be one, but I had no idea how my dream would become a reality.
Fast forward to when I turned 30. I realized that if I didn’t start being a novelist, then maybe I should put aside the dream and focus on something else.
I’d been doing nonfiction writing, getting articles and book reviews published but...
That wasn’t the same thing as writing a novel!
So I started by joining a group - my preferred way to learn.
I had so many concerns!
Honestly, I was afraid my stories would feel flat or uninteresting.
And don't get me started on the challenge of balancing world-building with character development!
