Are you the tortoise or the hare when it comes to your creative work? Or maybe a centipede or inch worm. It’s all okay. There can be a lot of pain between where you are and where you wish to be or where you think you should be.
The writers who are at peace with their creative process whatever it may be are the ones who are the most satisfied.
It’s frustrating to be out of sync with the ideal of a writers life.
However, I like to check my “shoulds” at the door. They are a clear sign that I’m operating off of someone else’s playbook and not my own. Your own playbook — what you REALLY want — may whisper to you, or only nudge you. It’s often a nonverbal part, a body instinct, silently pointing you really you want to go. Listen to yourself. That way lies joy.
I read a quote recently about how the world needs our joy not our obedience. (I don't remember the exact quote nor who said it. If you do, please send my way.)
I’ve been getting into Human Design lately. I like to describe it as astrology turbo-charged, combined with the I Ching, the chakras, and a huge dose of experimentation and far-thinking about human evolution.
I've had a series of ahas lately on getting more and more in alignment of how I process and make decisions and really where my power lies and how best I can serve. I love it! If you want to get your own chart done it’s free in all kinds of places. I like the nerdy bank of information here: (free to make an account and make charts)
If you do your chart, hit reply and let me know your Strategy and Authority. (I'm a 5/1 Heretical Investigator, Generator with Emotional Authority.)
Staying in the world of self-awareness tools, some of my colleagues and I have been chatting about bringing more self-awareness tools to writers. All in the service of honoring our creative process and flow. Is this something you’d like more of?

For example: I’ve been curious how I can better market my fiction in a way that feels empowering and energizing and connects me to my potential readers, and therefore generates sales. Synthesizing my strengths via Human Design has given me some great ideas for book marketing and a clear path of action that I’m excited to experiment with actively next year. I’ll keep you posted.
On that note, I'd like to wish you a Happy Winter Solstice!
That's today -- the shortest day of the year in the Northern Hemisphere, where I am. (Happy Summer Solstice to my Southern Hemisphere readers! I see you!)
My invitation for you...
I invite you to be in alignment with your passions and way of connecting to your audience.
For when you bring your joy into the world through your art and you share it in a way that lights you up, you will inevitably attract your right readers. I feel so strongly that we each have stories that the world needs to hear and experience and that we make the world a better place by bringing our visions to it.
And the world needs us to do this.
Not everyone can write a novel.
If you’re called to bring your stories to the world and you would like support, I invite you to contact me to see how I can support you with one of our programs, courses, or 1-1 coaching.
I and my husband are on an "at home" writer's retreat for a few weeks. So I will be available for consultations after January 9, 2022.
This is my last newsletter for the year, too.
Wishing you and yours love, joy, comfort, and fun during this holiday season! |
