| When I was starting out as a novelist, I felt excited yet alone.
I was excited to be finally writing a novel after dreaming about it for over a decade.
Yet I felt alone because I was only a handful of people I knew working on a book. Our small critique group was only focused on the writing process. I wanted more. I wanted to get published.
Finally I made the big decision to join a professional writing group.
All of a sudden I wasn't just taking steps toward my dreams, I was on the escalator, and surrounded by people who'd already "made it" and who had wisdom from their years of experience to share with us.
