Creativity as a Super Power

September 3, 2021
Oakland, CA

Hi Friend,
Oops! I missed 2 weeks of sending out my newsletter. Last week I wasn't feeling well and had zero bandwidth -- I'm much better now.

The week before there was a tech glitch I didn't notice until after the fact.

Well, I'm back now and have a jam-packed Creativity Sparks newsletter for you today!

Welcome to all our new newsletter subscribers!

I'm here to help you build your author career on your own terms.

A working novelist myself, and a teacher and coach, I care about empowering you with tools, courses, products, and services that give you more options on the menu of life.

**

You have an active imagination. Maybe your characters talk to you; or you fall into your imaginary worlds like going next door; or story ideas are always popping into existence around you.

Awesome.

You are creative.

When we tap into our ability to bring ideas out of the ether and into the world by writing them down -- wow -- that's amazing.

Our creativity is a super power.

You can use your power for good in the world -- affecting people with our stories.

You can also use your power to generate lots of marketing options, so that you can find the right one for you.

Using our creativity for marketing is what I wrote about here, on Creativity Coach's LA Bourgeois' blog.

I share some creativity tips you can use when marketing your business -- including your fiction writing business.

Let me know your thoughts. Thanks!

On to the rest of this issue... with lots of quirky, fun book marketing tips for fiction writers to empower you.

Q&A with Thriller Novelist, Lisa Towles

Lisa was one of my clients a few years back. So when she approached me recently to share the news of her upcoming novel, I of course said yes!

Lisa Towles has 6 mystery/thriller novels in print and her new thriller, Ninety-Five, will be published in November, 2021, by Indies United Publishing.

Her 2019 thriller, The Unseen, was a Finalist in the Thriller category of the Best Book Awards by American Book Fest and a Winner of the NYC Big Book Award in the Crime Fiction category.

Her 2017 thriller, Choke, won a 2017 IPPY and a 2018 NYC Big Book Award for Thriller.

Edgar Allan Poe & Writing Newsletters

They connect. I promise.

Here's how.

Author Catherine Baab-Muguira has a fun advice book coming out soon: Poe for Your Problems: Uncommon Advice from History’s Least Likely Self-Help Guru.

She writes a free email newsletter called "Poe Can Save Your Life," packed with darkly inspiring self-help tips for writers and other creatives.

And she's written a fun, useful post "What Every Writer Needs to Know About Email Newsletters (They’re Not Going Away)" on Jane Friedman's blog:

*I admit I'm not a Poe fan but I was drawn in by Catherine's fun, unique take on Poe and how we can apply his life experiences to our life.

Awesome Book Marketing Tools via BookFunnel

BookFunnel is an online software system that helps you give away ARCs, participate in giveaways and newsletter swaps to grow your author mailing list. And they're growing all the time. I'm a big fan.

*I'm receiving no compensation to share about them. I just want you to know about my experience in the hopes it helps you with your book marketing.

Firstly, the investment is worth it! I pay $150 per year; but was also happy at the $20 per year plan.

Why do I love BookFunnel?
-- I love using the group giveaways and their recent new feature: author newsletter swaps!

Both are great ways to put my fiction and nonfiction in front of lots of possible new readers at a very affordable rate.

My current group giveaway:
(Ends Sept. 15)

I have two newsletters swaps coming!

If you want to see what the swaps are about, you can check out my Nonfiction Books for Fiction Writers here:

**A BOOK RECOMMENDATION**

I have been loving listening to Wonderworks: The 25 Most Powerful Inventions in the History of Literature by Angus Fletcher.

So insightful. I'm eager to apply the inventions to my fiction. When I do, I'll let you know how it goes.

Fletcher's perspective is new to me and I swear I get chills with each chapter.

**Do you love audio books?**

Here's an audio book giveaway!

My husband's wacky thriller, The Torah Codes, -- the audio book format -- is part of a giveaway. Limited time only!

Details here: "Awesome Audio Book Giveaway: Torah Codes by Ezra Barany"

Have a happy and creative week!

All my best,

Beth
