| Creating Tension at the Micro Level

|
| | I am still dealing with jet lag from my 8-day trip in Saudi Arabia teaching "Plan Your Novel Like A Pro" intensive, so I'm keeping today's newsletter short. |
| Featured Post
Today I'm featuring a Writer's Fun Zone guest post by editor and novelist, C. S. Lakin, on creating tension at the micro level.
"Tension is created by lack. Lack of understanding, lack of closure, lack of equilibrium or peace. When your readers have questions, that creates tension. When they need to know what happens next, that is tension.
Masterful writers keep their readers in a constant state of tension. And that’s a good thing.
But here’s something to keep in mind: our characters may be tense, but that doesn’t mean readers are tense in response."
You can read the rest of the post and learn about her course on the topic here:

| EXPERIMENT WITH VIDEO
Last week while in Saudi Arabia teaching my Plan Your Novel intensive, I created some short videos and posted them to Instagram and Facebook.
Sparked by conversations with students, the topic was how to deal with overwhelm as a writer and creative -- something I've experienced and many others face too. You can watch the videos on Facebook here.
