Whenever I feel a dip in my confidence to pull off my complicated sci-fi mystery novel, like today when I sat down to answer some plot hole questions my critique partners very kindly pointed out, I start off by reconnecting to my purpose for writing, dnd for writing this particular story.
Some people call this answering your Big Why.
I also like to ask myself if I'm still committed to the book and the characters.
I do ask myself about my Why a lot and find reconnecting to my commitment is a helpful way to start the writing session.
I don't completely understand what compels me to write my character's stories.
Except I do know that I write mysteries because I want justice, and I want to see wrongs righted and those committing a crime in my story world being brought to justice.
What is your big why for writing your story?
Is it tied into the genre like it is for me?
Hit reply and let me know!
