7 Reasons to Have an Author Newsletter 😍

April 15, 2022
Oakland, CA

Hi Friend,
Welcome, new Creativity Sparks newsletter subscribers! Here we focus on inspiring and motivating content to help you write, edit, and market your novel on your terms. We also focus on actionable resources to help you create the change you desire.
♄
I love being in the creative cave, far away from the world while I draft my stories. I peek out, gather inspiration, and go back in and get back to work.

Then it comes time to share my books, to publish and sell them.

That's when I'm grateful I have an author newsletter I've been nurturing for years.

7 Reasons to have an author newsletter...

  1. You're in this for the long haul and you want to cultivate a readership who will be with you for the duration.
  2. You want to evolve as an author over time and have a mailing list that can support you in that process
  3. You want raving fans to connect with directly
  4. You want to be in charge of building your own community, independent of any social media channel
  5. You want to be able to offer specials and deals and sneak peeks easily
  6. You don't want to be dependent on social media that changes the rules all the time
  7. You don't want to be beholden to social media algorithms

Those are my reasons.

What are yours? Share!

So my question to you is:

**What is the next step you can take to start your author newsletter?**

**Hit reply and let me know!**

As an experiment, think about what you can do in 5 minutes, and do that.

*Small steps lead to a job done!*

If you'd like to dive deeper in book marketing fundamentals, then check out my Branding for Novelists self-paced / home study course here:

I cover author newsletters in greater depth, as well as other key elements.

Shout Out Corner!

A thank you to @BrooklynBookDoctor who has been excerpting an interview we did together a while back.

Jump here to Instagram to listen:

We discussed what to do when you're in the flow of your project and all kinds of OTHER ideas are flooding in.

I shared how I keep a folder called MISCELLANEOUS IDEAS inside my current project folders in Scrivener.
⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
I say, "Thanks, ideas! I have a home for you." And write down the idea.

I don't turn away the inspiration, but rather put it somewhere handy.

What tool or strategy helps you stay focused on your writing?

Have a happy and creative week! Happy Writing!

All my best,

Beth

I stand for peace and for freedom. I stand with the people of the Ukraine. A great great grandmother was from Odessa, a great great grandfather was from Chernivitsi, both immigrating to the United States in the 1880s. I also have a Russian Jewish great grandfather who immigrated to the U.S. in the early 1900s. And most of my other ancestors were from other parts of Eastern Europe -- the area being most affected by the over 10 million people fleeing the war zone.
