In my experience of coaching and mentoring, I’ve found that there are 3 reasons you might be struggling:
• You’re disconnected from your inner curiosity and you’re not sure about the things your intuition is telling you
• You’re afraid something might need to change that takes you out of your comfort zone
• You don’t yet believe in yourself or Life to support you to access the courage you need to act
The truth is that your curiosity has all the wisdom and guidance you need to find your way to the future that you sense in your clearest moments is possible.
Unless you form a strong and unshakable connection to this deeper curiosity, it’s impossible to step forward and create the things you most desire.
I want to share the story of my Draw in PEACE course participant, Wendy who was incredibly stuck getting to the next level of her impact and success.
Wendy was in her mid-40s, worked as a copy editor at a local newspaper ad agency. Her father recently died, and she felt the need to move through the grief by exploring a new skill. She placed the copy for the classified ad “Finally learn to draw and paint.” AND . . . there was Wendy reading and responding to her desire to finally learn to draw.
Wendy felt trapped in her career and had tried everything to figure out what to do next…
She hired counselors, she took the strengths-finder test, she listed all her passions, but couldn’t find her “next step.”
When Wendy called to inquire what and how I could help her with her desire to learn to draw, I assured her that I had a strong background in education and designed lessons in a step-by-step sequence. I guaranteed her she would absolutely learn to draw, if she were willing to come to lessons with an open mind, practice, and do the work on her own.
Wendy decided to give lessons a try. We worked one-to-one, week after week, year after year – for 10 years. What I discovered over the years of guiding Wendy and other individuals in small groups, is that the training in art – was MORE than the piece of paper that had their imprint on – it was the impact of the connection and comfort my clients received – the HEALING effect from the process of creating art!
That’s when Wendy did an exercise I teach in my Draw in PEACE called “picture your possibility, shape your senses” and was able to connect her to her deepest yearnings for the first time in over a decade.
In the exercise, she allowed herself to feel the depth of her calling to contribute to her life experience with her innate curiosity and learn a new skill that even helped other women.
With my mentoring, Wendy didn’t try to go into “strategy” and “figure out” how to “make it happen,” she just stayed with the practice to see and feel the desire she had to give.
